I have 3 releases by a band on Warp called RAC. Does anyone know who they are? I've never seen any interviews or articles. Information seems scarce on these boys (or girls, as the case may be). BTW, why are there no female techno bands? (or are there and I just don't know about it?) I find it hard to believe women simply aren't interested in this kind of music. Just a thought. ==<<JT>>==

Although there are not nearly as many female techno artists as there could be, there are at least a few. DJ Rap makes great, deep jungle, the late Lee Newman was one half of one of the most innovative techno / dance industrial groups ever (GTO / Greather Than One / John & Julie / Tricky Disco), and Chelsea Grin makes deep headfuck weirdness. Not to mention K. Hand, deep house mistress from Detroit. yrz, ozy ozymandias G desiderata ogd@organic.com Tomorrow's Web Sites Today (415)284-6888 http://www.organic.com Organic Online

Richard Brown from GPR(aka YO3 w/ Beaumont Hannant), and Chris something or other. Great release. Their mini-album DIVERSIONS was not highly publicized, and I came across it when trying to fill the gaps in my own Warp collection(James Skilton or G303 could possibly give you more info on that than I can...) Derek Jordan RAC (Richard And Chris) - - -

I think you're wrong about it being Richard Brown. As I understand it they are Chris Duckenfield and Richard Benson. Richard And Chris = RAC. They were formerly known as Astrix and Space, northern rave boys back in the day, and remixers of an Altern8 track. One of them (Chris?) works or worked in the WARP shop in Sheffield. They have also released two EPs on Nucleus, a now-defunct (I think) offshoot of WARP, which I think they were in charge of. The CD of "Diversions" included 4 extra tracks taken from these earlier EPs, while the 12" mini-LP was just 5 new tracks. Richard Benson has also released at least a couple of things on Force Inc. a single and a double 12". But from my understanding he is American(the 12" has a large US flag on it), not British like RAC. So is it the same Richard Benson or ummm.... is it someone else? RAC is very good whoever it is. g303 told a while ago that force inc.'s richard benson is very probably not identical to rac's... i'm also told that force inc.'s richard benson is from berlin... the "american flag" on force inc. 079 is worth a closer look (it's not exactly an american flag!)... i guess the flag gives away the pronounced chicago orientation of some of the recent force inc. stuff... cheers, p. on now: patriot command game sounds from my colleague's computer

James' information is correct. It is Chris who works in WARP the shop. Richard Brown is actually one of Rhythm Invention. He engineered for RAC. I think he has engineered other WARP stuff too. Nucleus *is* pretty defunct now. g3 g The WARP Web Site 3 0 3 http://www.ncl.ac.uk/~n264671/wap-indx.html
