I couldn't wait for the Mo'Wax release (for all I know, it's probably
out already :) so I shelled out and picked up the Japanese version of DJ
Krush's latest. 14 tracks, a few Black Dog's Bolts-like bits of beats, many
collaborations with various rappers like Guru and the Roots. The cover looks
more like a 4AD release than a Mo'Wax. Upon first listen, I'm not sure I like
the rapping (it's a little odd to hear Krush beats and koto-like Japanese
flute melodies together with a guy rapping about the hard life of a drug
dealer). Much darker than the previous Mo'Wax album, even more so when
compared to the sunny single "A Whim". Some parts sound like Sabres gone
triphop. The "duet" with DJ Shadow, "Duality", closes the LP in grand style, 9
or so minutes of haunting melodies over funky beats. Sounds like a grower.
