The July issue of Studio Voice, a Japanese style/culture mag, focuses
on techno. It's got:
- a funny node-and-edges diagram of techno and its origins/offsprings
- interview with Jeff Mills
- in-depth look at German techno
- in-depth look at respected techno artist Traci Lords (just kidding!)
- 10 hip-with-techno cities, like London, Detroit, San Fran :), etc.
- a look at Japanese techno & descriptions of key record labels (Sublime, etc.)
- short description by Ken Ishii of his Akira-like animation project, with
pics - very interesting...
- article on techno on the Internet, by yak!?sato who's on IDM
- 200 "bibles" (best albums/singles) of techno (I am peeved however that all
they could include by the Black Dog is the Cost II single. I mean I like it,
but...)
Nice layout and all in the usual Studio Voice vein. Mention of albums
or singles always come with thumbnail pic of the cover or vinyl label. It's
nice to just look at, but if you wanna read the articles, it's all in
Japanese, so either get a friend who can translate or study some :) You can
get this mag at Tower Recs.
