I bought Vulva's "From The Cockpit" yesterday, and asked the guy at the counter if they had Speedy J's G-spot. The guy probably thought I had a fixation. Ewan.

You missed your chance -- you should have asked for "Vulvaland" by Mouse on Mars as well. -- "eight bytes read at zero bytes per second" -- Netscape status line [Kent Williams/CADSI/2651 Crosspark Rd/Coralville IA 52241] kent.williams@cadsi.com

Speaking of "Vulvaland", I was cruising through American Recordings' Web pages last week and noticed that they've licensed Too Pure stuff, amongst which they're releasing a U.S. Domestic "Vulvaland" as a result. Me, I'm still waiting for a band to call themselves "Uvula" - remember the old SNL skit with Laraine Newman chiming, "It'll behoove ya - to take care of your uvula!" - Greg

Yes, it's been out a couple weeks. Anybody know if it has the "secret track" that's on the Too Pure version? (Not that it's that great a track, but still...) C. -- cspot@hyperreal.com (Chris.Hilker) "Blue ice cubes? How degenerate!"

The last track, "katang", is 11:37 in length. At 15:47, some droney synths come in for a few minutes, and at 23:43 the index number changes to '2' and an acidic track lasts for about 5 minutes. Personally I was a bit disappointed with this album, given all the high praise that has come from the list. It's good, but maybe I need a 100+ watt system to really feel those basslines (20 watts has its limitations). Anyway, my favorite acquisition recently has been Sun Electric's 30.7.94 If you like sweeping washing melodic ambience lying in your bed by candlelight (or blacklight), this really takes you places. ------------------------------------------------------------ | Bob Weisend | "I'm not an actor, | | rweisend@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu | but I play one | | http://www.calpoly.edu/~rweisend | on TV." | ------------------------------------------------------------

I have to agree with Bob. Although there are one or two excellent tracks on the album, overall it was just a bit too generically dubby to really grab my attention. Maybe next time out? Their track on TEX3 is pretty huge, so there's reason to hope. I'm not too impressed that American has finally decided to put all this stuff out in the states. A lot of it is already out (P.J., Seefeel, etc.) and the rest isn't particularly exciting. I wonder how much of the Warp catalog Warner is going to deal with here. I'll also second Bob's plug for the recent Sun Electric live. Easily the best thing they've done and a powerful slice of digital sunshine. It's probably best discussed on the ambient list, though.

Apparently not much - word is Wax Trax will be releasing 'The Number of Magic' and the Red Snapper album stateside. The question is, will they be able to get their act together and release them before they've been out in the UK for six months. I'm willing to wait one month after the UK release date for the new Kirk. If Wax Trax takes a day longer, I'll buy the import. C. -- cspot@hyperreal.com (Chris.Hilker) "Blue ice cubes? Wax Trax will be releasing Richard Kirk, Red Snapper, and Nightmares on Wax, all Warp releases, domestically in the near future. :: Alan M. Parry :: fluid@hyperreal.com :: <finger me for PGP key> :: http://hyperreal.com/~fluid

Anything that puts large portions of the Stereolab back catalog on store shelves for $12.99 is alright with me. Plus, Laika's _Silver Apples of the Moon_ is the sort of thing that anyone interested in genre cross-pollenization ought to be checking out. Anyway, anything that keeps American from putting out more Messiah and Danzig records has _got_ to be viewed as a positive. ;) -d.w.
