EEHHH !! is this Jon Anderson of 70's prog-symforock group Yes? What in heavens name is he up to these days. Last *I* heard of him he had become a born-again christian with albums consiting solely on themes of 'let's praise the Lord' ,'you have to seek God' etc. Should be interresting to hear what Ben and Tom can do with that! Has he jumped on the ambient wagon, perhaps? And 'remix compilation'? C'mon, this has to be some kitsch stuff. Oyvers

Well, you know somethin', I noticed in a book about breakdancing that these 40 street-rappin'-electro-dancin' kids in Chicago in '84 said that their fave breakin' track was "Owner of a Lonely Heart" - some 12" mix. Probably more of a nod to Trevor Horn than anybody, but, Herbie Hancock sampled the hell out of that and other Yes songs from that LP for his "Metal Beat" 12". That LP is rich with processed sound for making vocal pads, blasts and weird blips with the resonant filter on yer sampler. I heard a Luke Skyywalker vinyl piece (Florida style BASS circa '87) that very cleverly scratched some "Leave It" remix into the rap... On a similar thread, remember how St. Etienne sampled Rush from '79. Damn funny that was. I find loops of bombastic art rock mix well with samples of Curtis Mayfield thru-distortion-pedal... I wouldn't be suprised at all to catch a sample of old King Crimson in FSOL or the Orb someday soon. Am I the only person who thinks that the vocal pads in Orbital's "Halcyon" (not the Opus III vocals, but the extended vocalish chords that run through the track) are sampled from "Leave It". I'm almost certain that's where they come from. ----------------------------------------------------------------- dave walker, detroit art services _ marmoset@conch.aa.msen.com born freeke Dave Walker
