Hi! I don't really know if this is the right question for IDM, but I'll try it anyway... Next saturday there'll be a party here where a DJ named Ron Trent will play. He's from Chicago, but does he play the real Chicago sound? Does anybody know him at all? Thanx...

I've never heard Ron Trent play, but he wrote one of my all time favorite tracks, Altered States. I love that record and every time I've played it the dance floor went fucking nuts! As far as I'm concerned he IS the real Chicago sound. Altered States is not a very housey track though. It's a lot like the Mike Dunn stuff. Good Chicago based electronic stuff. I'd die to hear him play. Cos 303's still kick ass.... r > -robert CU!

Yes, Alterd States is amazing... I have a DJAX 2 x 12" of Altered States that has a ton of remixes on it, including a Carl Craig remix (ooooh...) I'm not sure if this is the same guy as (Ron?) "Trent" and "Chez" from "The Perscription Underground," a Chicago deep house label. And I mean *DEEP* house... I really like their "hip to be disillusioned" record. I know there has been a few more releases after that one though. a little help here please? _______________________________________________________________________ Matt MacQueen Hypermedia Development & Insomniac Communication Technology Laboratory, Michigan State Univeristy _______________________________________________________________________

They've done some stuff for Detroit labels as well -- KMS in particular. They were also part of the "Red Nail featuring Noni" EP that came out a while back via Intellinet. -d.w.

It's most definitely the same Ron Trent. He and Chez Damier (who released a record or two on KMS, I believe) run Prescription records out of Chicago. - Matthew

First of all....Thanx for the replies!! SR> I heard Ron Trent play at .....the MAYDAY in Dortmund last year. Although SR> he seemed a bit out of place there, he did a fine job playing a style, SR> which i think is in between garage and chicago sound. I think it's worth SR> going to this party, if he's playing, but since my information is almost SR> from one year ago, who knows what has happend to Ron since... Well, I haven't heard him. At least I think I didn't... The party started with 2 dj's and I don't know their names, but they were terrible! I don't think that Ron could've played terrible like that. After all, he is chicago...;-) And after the 2 stupid bastards there was Eddy de Clerq, who played nice...Not 'amsterdammy' at all...He even played a lot of ambient from time to time and some acid too....Strange... So I didn't see Ron Trent at all, I'm affraid... SR> Stefan Thanx anyway... Sorry for bad spelling..;-) CU!
