Joey Kay 4 Track EP (House Jam) - Smooth, sexy house cuts - A1 is the jam - loose, yet cohesive, sensible percussion and sampled piano kick for a while and flirt with the hats before the 1 2 3 4 comes in and ties it together. Beautiful and melancholic. Nice breakdowns. 24 Hour Dub Essentials (Nice & Ripe) - Classically stompy house tracks. B2 is beautiful - upright bass and staccato chords lend a swingy theme. Melodic, but not overly so - driving but not too hard - like someone kicking you in the ass with a fuzzy slipper on. ;) When the square-wave bass line comes in to mimic the upright, it's all good. The whole record is worth having. Shazz - A View of Manhattan (F Communications) - What can I say about this? It's just sweet. Hooky, with implied melody created by syncopation - smart shit. There are a few different mixes - B2 is a little harder than the rest - A1 is definitely the smoothest, I think. This record is a testament to the funk-potential of musicians using electronic instruments. That's about it for now - it's nice to post about some new shit, finally! I've been buying records again lately, so I'll have some more dirt for you as soon as I've had the chance to mull it all over. Keep that body movin, Darshan
