|Flipping through a zine I saw a review of

|making/releasing work like this... I want MORE :) --
The Bristol scene referred to is typified by weird, twisted takes on hip-hop
& soul (sometimes called "trip-hop" although that's an iffy term these days).
Prime figures in this scene include Massive Attack, Tricky, Smith & Mighty
and Portishead. Older Smith & Mighty releases, esp. "Steppers Delight" EP
should be sought out at all costs. Excellent stuff. The new Smith & Mighty
LP/singles is really bad pop music, however. Both Massive Attack LPs and
singles are wonderful records as are Tricky's "Aftermath" and "Ponderosa"
singles. Tricky (a member of the Massive Attack crew) has a full length
slated for Jan. 95 release. Hope this helps. It may not be a complete review
of the Bristol scene, but hey, I live in Chicago!
