Thanks in advance for the help,
File transfers are done via 'anonymous FTP'. Instead of Telnetting to the host machine, you FTP there, and login as 'anonymous'. The host FTP server then invariably tells you to enter your email address as the password, but usually anything with a '@' in the middle of it will do. ftp techno.stanford.edu should get you in. sfraves.stanford.edu is the same machine as techno.stanford.edu. you should probably use techno.stanford.edu just to be consistent. after you log in, type 'binary' unless you know you're only going to be transferring text files. from there you can 'cd ' to change directories like normal; 'ls -CFs' to get a nice summary of what's in the current directory, and 'get <filename>' to transfer a file from the host to your machine. 'help' to see the other commands. tomorrow we learn 'C' programming using 'vi'. vrave plug: telnet techno.stanford.edu 7283 Mike J.
