Well, I have to say in regard to this latest Bitcrush that it's a disappointment. Specifically, it's a disappointment for anyone coming at it with 'Enarc' still resonating in his/her ears (though maybe more familiar if 'Shimmer and Fade' is the memory-borne template). On 'In Distance' Mike Cadoo channels a slew of his Slowdive/4AD/New Order influences through that dreary-pretty beautiful-miserabilist Mogwai/Sigur Ros post-rock filter and seems to forget to put much more of himself in there apart from an occasional vocal straining through the haze of strummed bass and that authentic rehearsal-room drumkit sound. It appears that what was 'in distance' on this album was much of his 80s shoegaze-goth-indie-pop record collection - though rather less in distance' than it should have been. I'm sorry, because I really liked 'Enarc', but it seems that the sense of sonic continuity with Gridlock was severed with that album. On the other hand, the Loess album, which was released on n5md at the same time as the Bitcrush, is very much the Loess we heard on their 2002 s/t album, and none the worse for it. Good stuff. alan --On 17 May 2006 22:28 -0400 pietrobot@digitalnimbus.com wrote:
