you miss my point.
i think aphex is great... i have a ton of his stuff... i just think the
worshipping thing is unhealthy, at best. there is so much great music out there,
it would be unfortunate for someone, especially a young personl, to think the
world begins and ends with him... it's like the standard rite of passage all
music lovers go through, be it rock (hendrix) or jazz or orchestral or
whatever... there is this perceived notion of a 'canon'... and aphex is part of
it, no doubt...
but that said, he's one of a hundred brilliant electronic musicians... he's just
a master at marketing, which sets him apart, absolutely...
i just find the warp-centric-ness of this list a little reminiscent of my own
high school obsessiveness and adamance over what i considered 'great' music... if
only i could back in time and shake some sense into myself...
