MESSAGE*******************************************************
I just signed up for the Art Brewery mailing list on the web site and shot
them a propsal for a North West Electronic Music Festival I have been
planning for the past couple years. I think the Rainer Brewery would be an
excellent space for hosting this event.
Here's what I wrote: You can check it/reply on the MSG board at

****NORTH WEST ELECTRONIC MUSIC FESTIVAL (NWEMF)
This is an idea I have been developing over the past couple years and feel
that Seattle is ready for this type of event. Originally I was going to book
the NWEMF at multiple venues on Capitol Hill (OSEEO, Chop Suey, Noiselab)
and sell one over all pass that gets you into all three event spaces. The
more I think about it finding one space that could harbor multiple rooms
(without sound leakage) would be a much more cost effective and practical
venue. I think the Rainer Brewery would be perfect.
The NWEMF festival will last three days (Thursday-Saturday) and showcase a
multitude of different artists from the both the international and regional
electronic music community. Each of the three areas would carry a different
theme of mood both visually and aurally (Ambient/noise, Dance, Downtempo).
Obviously there would have to be some HUGE name to pull this off and a
significant amout of money to make this happen. Almost all the artists I
have proposed this idea to (many of whom I communicated with at the Mutek
Electronic Music Festival in Montreal) were excited by the oppritunity and
expressed interest in performing. A few of the artist were Rich Hawtin,
Monolake, Akufen, T. Raumschmeire and Mathew Dear. There is equal interest
in the local electronic music community as well, which would make up a large
percentage of the bill (25-50% of performing artists).
The event would be promoted heavily through-out the NW (Portland, Seattle,
Vancouver) and the artists would have exclusive contracts agreeing that they
could only play the NWEMF. Keeping this in mind I believe a festival like
this could easily pull 4-5 thousand people, with passes going at $50 a pop,
which is a very reasonable price. The pass would include access to audio
workshops, panel talks and various seminars pertaining to the development of
electronic music.
Regardless of where this festival takes place I am determined to make it
happen in the next couple years and would love any feedback, comments,
support, etc.
