Artist: Miles Tilmann Title: Over and Through Label: Consumer Research and Development URL: http://www.consumerslabel.net/ Over and Through is a 7 track EP of uplifting melodies, rhythms, chords, and beats inter-spliced with ambient interludes. Fans of Boards of Canada should find a striking resemblance in both sound and structure. The production is tight and the sounds are crisp, clear, and expertly placed. The EP begins with the ambient intro of ''I've Already Forgotten'' and then straight into ''Mimi'' as the bpm's increase while the mood remains consistent. Mimi is then followed by ''Monday'' for more of what you've come to love while lifting you ever so higher. ''Hex'' then closes off the side much as it began. ''Spinner'' The first track on side B is another beatless intro, but this time the percussion leads one track directly into the next. ''The Quickest Way'' in my opinion is the best track on the album with it's rapid-fire percussion, deep chords, and atmospheric backdrop. ''Escape from Nothing'' follows and remains another standout track if only for the fact that it sounds the most original and quite unlike any of the other tracks on the EP. Although I hate comparisons, this sounds very much like a Boards of Canada EP. Despite it's brevity and aforementioned similarities, it makes for a great and recommended listen (I really wish it was available on CD) and is released on Chicago's Consumer Research and Development Label - home to releases from other great artists such as Alder and Elius and String Theory.
