To my knowledge "Peome Electronique" was the first performance to
incorperate tape loops, sirens and video clips to help carry the music. It's
actually really good for the time, but I wouldn't consider it dance music by
any means.
I would say the first intelligent "dance" piece is "Picture Music" buy Klaus
Schultz. It was release in 1974 on Braindance Metronome. The song Picture
music is one side of an LP (20 plus minutes) and is incredible. Schultz was
a master of the modular synth and actually developed/built his our analog
sequencers, which was how he was to created such intricate rhythms. I can't
think of an earlier piece of music that could still stand up against todays
IDM.
