How did we go from MBM to British Hip Hop Slams? I mean, did anyone really
consider Dangers an .... MC???
Anyway. two points:
1) New MBM unfortunately is getting stigmatized as "industrial". rivets,
leather, etc. Too bad, as the tracks with Z-Trip are right on.
2) British hip hop slams over US by avoiding the street references. Too
much bravado and ego in the US stuff, who has the biggest gun and joint
junk. Where as UK stuff goes straight for the heart of the matters. (On
many occasions at least). Folks like Taskforce, Blade [though he seems to
be a bit one-track-minded], Gunshot, Skinnyman [Ok, lots of drug references
there, but he is on], Aspects, Toastie Taylor, etc.
Anyway, there are enough decent UK and US hip hop folks that there is no
need to front on one over the other. Both have their "stars".
Now what I would like to hear is some of them MCs on top of some MBM
tracks. That'd be the ticket.
(On a final, and mostly unrelated, note...the prior DJ Vadim beats the new
one hands down.)
Me.
