Two sites that aren't traditional journalistic outlets, but who do a great
job:
Bandcamp.com has daily and weekly writeups of music on bandcamp. Joe
Mugford writes for them regularly.
Boomkat.com product descriptions are as informative (or more) than
'independent' reviews. They have a definite viewpoint and want you to buy
the stuff they sell, but they are informative and entertaining.
