Having previously (unfairly, I know!) slagged off Vincent Gallo's
"While" after one listen, due to the whiny (imo) vocals, I am now
much impressed by his "Recordings of Music for Film" [Warp, 2002].
These 29 tracks are taken from the films The Way It Is, Buffalo '66,
Downtown '81, and If You Feel Foggy, Jump (of which I've only seen
Buffalo '66). They are mainly instrumental, often just one
instrument played quietly and sparsely. Very moody in places, always
emotive and probably well-placed in the filmic context.
If you like 'em hard and fast, then definitely avoid this :-)
However, if you like instrumental introspective beauty, give it a
try.
