-Hey.. it's a well known fact that music can only be innovative if you like -it. Imagine how confusing things could get if it were possible to respect -the work or methods of an artist, even though you weren't into the end -results. This is actually very possible. I spent a good hour arguing with reimer eising (kettel) about this about a week ago. For example, I respect Richard Devine and his work. I think it's very interesting and decent to listen to base purely on process... but then end result isn't really anything I'm into. The music that I actually like or make, isn't at all based on process (for the most part), but a good portion of my CD collection isn't music I like, but rather appreciate. This would be how I feel about Radiohead actually... I really do appreciate what they do, and I respect them a great deal, but I don't like their music much at all. It's really interesting and I think they have some great ideas, but it's just not my thing. I own Autechre's Confield, but I only like the process, not the result. You're right, this is confusing, but this is how I listen to music. jon tenandtracer p.s. new CD+7"+possible bonus CDR ep coming up on tundra/civik... dark before dawn 3"CDEP sold out in a day, and my full length is nearly done at the presses. http://www.tenandtracer.com ----- Original Message ----- From: "Greg Smith" <purgasmith@earthlink.net> To: <idm@hyperreal.org> Sent: Friday, July 26, 2002 9:57 AM Subject: Re: [idm] the topic of discussion (Bjork?) on 7/26/02 8:44 AM, EggyToast at eggy@eggytoast.com scrawled:
