I think Chiastic Slide is the best album -- in the sense of having a
musical narrative that runs through it and not just a collection of
interesting tracks -- that AE has ever done. Listen to it through in
one sitting and see if you don't agree; the final track makes a lot
more sense as the capstone to the album than in isolation.
That said, it was by far the hardest AE album for me to get into.
I absolutely hated it the first time I listened to it; it wasn't
until about the fourth listen that something "clicked" and it all
made sense to me. Since then, it remains my favorite album of
theirs, though there may be individual tracks from their other
albums that exceed it.
