http://www.gooom.com Mils has become one of my favorites these days, Their music is organic and wacky at the same time. When I say wacky I mean in the sense that Aphex Twin is wacky with childlike themes and distorted vocal samples. The difference is that the origins of these sounds or at least the intent seems to be the want to add a texture that is organic and evocative of a place. I may be completely wrong but that place is very french. Mils has achieved adding history to their music without compromising that fact that it is idm, it is dance music, and it is looking ahead. I like the sense of context in this music, while most idm is clean and plays out on some sort of tabula rasa, Mils start with a palette of familiar items and the transcends the familiar into a dreamlike plane where everything enjoys a sense of multiplicity. On a less nerdy note, the song "galapagos islands milx" explains this feeling very well and seems to be stuck on repeat for me, it would be on my top 10 of last year if I made one, and very well would make it to my best of all time list too :-) If only it would be released on vinyl. Also, one should check out the imaginary singles club comp on gooom as well, not one bad track on that one and its out a vinyl too, definite plus.
