I saw Meira Asher acting live. It was a theatre/music performance, not a
concert.
She was with two musicians/actors and it took place in a small Portuguese
town (Guarda), at what looked like an abandoned wharehouse. The ambient was
perfect, cold and rough, not at all confortable. Like the show, it was
everything but confortable. When everybody started entering the room, we
could see Meira Asher on stage, sitting in a chair with her hands tied and
with a leather ball in her mouth, moaning like she was being tortured.
The show was all about that extreme ambient, and with extreme music, like
for example percurssions of an hammer beating on flesh or a dress that made
sounds as she moved. The sound of screaming, bombs and automatic guns where
almost always present, one time while the newspaper obituary was projected
on the wall and they kept reading the names of the dead...
It was one of the strangest experiences of my life, and one of the most
rewarding too.
Luis Marta.
