quoted 1 line "Spears Into Hooks" by Meira Asher (1999).> "Spears Into Hooks" by Meira Asher (1999).
"Whoa! First time I see her name appear on IDM and I'm glad of it.
I have a comp. from the Rencontres Transmusicales de Rennes
music festival from '96 and there's a great crazy track by her on
there* - first and only time I've ever come across her name.
So? Fill us in: who is she, where's she from, what's the story?"
Maybe I can say something... She's from Israel. I have two albums from
Meira Asher. The first is from 1997 (Crammed Discs, cram 094), is called
"dissected" and it's from 1997. It has the following songs:
1- SIDA (AIDS) (the one that is in your compilation, just a fait-divers, in
Portugal we also say SIDA)
2- Fair and Ruddy
3- Give Peace
4- Psalm 19
5- Dissect me
6- Maligora, the sand child
7- Daddy Came
8- Taht A' Shams
This album is very folky and still easy to listen. However my fave is her
second album called "Spears into hooks" (Crammed Discs, cram 095). The
songs are:
1- Shahid 1
2- Shahid 2
3- Dissect me again
4- The flood
5- Weekend away break
6- Tiring night
7- Me last granny
8- Vio Smear
9- E' un Uomo
The songs in "Spears into Hooks" are industrial, noisy and very hard to
listen (quite violent). They are very different from the song you heard in
your compilation, so be carefull. Anyway I think "Spears into Hooks" stands
out as the best industrial album of the last 6 - 7 years... It has a strong
political message, with a comparison of the political situation in Palestine
with the Holocaust... "Dissected" has also a strong message about AIDS, but
in "Spears into Hooks" you have to be very calm in order not to get nervous
with sounds that come out of the speakers. But it's a perfect record to
listen while watching the news on CNN.
I never saw a Meira Asher live show. Many people say that it is an extreme
experience... I am sure Luis Marta will say something about that, because
he saw a live performance from Meira Asher some months ago... ;)
Now with artists like Meira Asher, who gives a dam about Nine Inch Nails???
Nine Inch Nails is friendly industrial music for MTV, nothing more...
Cheers
César
