Their actual cd's definitely had a decline in quality over the years. They ended up just making dance music with an mc (doughty) repeating strange lyrics monotonously over the top, instead of actually fitting everything together with amazing style and intelligence on the first album. People on the list who appreciate the more "natural" sounds on Ninja Tune, or who like Red Snapper, would probably enjoy the first Soul Coughing album, Ruby Vroom. Avoid the other two. It's too bad, because if they had more stuff like Ruby Vroom, or had decided to pursue stranger stuff instead of turning into Pop, they'd probably have more IDM-L fringe benefits, a la Radiohead. cheers, /derek ------- eggytoast.com ------- now updated daily --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
