Some recent newsmagazineshow (forget which) offered the opinion that consumers have had their "fill" of new technologies (yes, they used a dinner metaphor). Maybe the same dissemination of DSP-technology is affecting with what we listen and respond to... I think that after all the hype around new production software that is powerful/scalable (MAX, Reaktor, etc.), these tools end up with a specific, identifiable sound because they do a certain, limited number of things quickly and easily. And that's what the majority of producers use them for. Kind of like when hardware samplers first became afforable... in theory they are chamelons but in retrospect, early sampler-based work used a ton of pitch-shifting, reversing, looping, whatever because it was new and easy. In the end, you could easily pick out that a track that used a sampler. Could simply be your tired of hearing the quick and easy application of technology. If so, is cool... me too. :) Maybe all likeminded individuals should start an IDM-recovery list. erik statemusic (a lurker by nature)
