Once again in the minority here -- I'm not a fan of the El Rey at all.. every show I've seen there, rock or electronic or whatever, has had pretty piss poor sound, and the staff are relentless in making sure you can't stand or sit in any place that might make you comfortable. As far as electronic dance music goes, the best venue in Los Angeles for that, IMHO, is -- believe it or not -- The Palace. The staff isn't any more friendly, but if they can get a good sound guy for that place, amazing things can happen there. The Knitting Factory in Hollywood, despite some other issues, is otherwise another ace venue for electronic music. (This is not counting a lot of the smaller DIY places that give themselves up for more underground events, of course.) The El Rey definitely gets amazing acts, but the acoustics could be a little better. Hey, it may be entirely the case that I've been cursed with bad sound people at every El Rey show I've been to... so I won't knock the El Rey too many more times, now. ======================================================================= Brian MacDonald <brianm@kuci.org> ======================================================================= --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
