I thought I'd take this oppurtunity to tell the list about a very IDM-
applicable quasi-jazz CD I picked up not too long ago that is really
incredible. Everyone should check out Jamie Saft's Sovlanut. It's
part of the Radical Jewish Culture series on John Zorn's Tzadik label.
While it does use some of the sounds and harmonies familiar to klezmer
and other eastern music, what is special about it is the way it
combines those sounds with dub and drum 'n bass (all live
instrumentation to make things that much cooler). I highly reccomend
checking out this album. When I first got it, I couldn't stop
listening to it for days. In between the drum n bass and dub tracks,
there's also some spaced out funk reminiscient of Miles Davis' work
from the early 70's. Hope I opened up some eyes to this awesome album.
