I have to agree. I can't stand the term IDM, it's worse than the
ghastly "electronica" and almost as bad as "Progressive <anything>".
Things have definitely taken a turn towards the non-musical. While
I'm happy for someone, somewhere to be pushing boundaries, it's boring
gobshite if you ask me. The elitism of being into this crap can be
quite tedious at times. Accessible does not mean bad: tell me that
Massive Attack weren't groundbreaking in their day, and commerically
successful?

I think you're being a bit narrow. Good music can be built without
basslines and drums. This is another reason I don't like the term
IDM: most of the music I listen to, which would probably be called
IDM, is undancable.
