Mono @ 44khz.
A degradation in sound quality will be a lot more noticeable than a
mono recording. Isn't there a track on Autechre's "EP7" that's in
mono? I wonder how many people noticed. Probably a lot less than those
who'd notice if the recording was in 22khz!
