maybe idm is dead already and we are just left behind. maybe the future of idm isnt idm at all. im sure there has been much debat over the term (idm), and some say "music is music" idm is helpful to classify, others dont want it classified, whatever...this isnt to raise up that debate. there are two questions cross pollinating: this has obviously been done, but has it been done by say for instance (the digital smear of oval) and drum & bass. or fuzzy guitars and 'out there mego style glitches' complete inverse of a formula (tried and true) an example would be my bloody valentines loveless. shields & co managed to become the future of rock simply be employing alot anti ideas to a rock formula. they also wrote some great songs whilst doing so. so if there is an idm formula (ex. the autechre way, of adding and subtracting elements, wacked out programming etc etc) who will be someone who inverses that formula ? or chooses to work within it and give it a new breath ? that to me would be the future of idm.
