heh someone decoded what this 'random noise' sounding track is:
So, for anyone wondering why AFX uploaded a noise this painful to
Soundcloud... the answer may intrigue you.
This track was not meant for human consumption. "Maybe you would like it if
you had robot ears." -- JP - Grandma's Boy
JP was correct in his assertion. At least, in this case. The track
"dx9-20-afx-voices" is actually a memory dump of Presets from the Yamaha
DX-9 Synthesizer.
Old Synthesizers [and some modern ones... like the Korg Monotribe] Use
Analogue recordings to store Firmware information, Setup information, and
even presets.
Old Synths usually use a Radio Shack TRS-80 Style Computer Controlled
Cassette Player.
In the case of the Monotribe... you downloaded a .wav file from Korg, you
hook an audio cable from your laptop/phone playing the .wav file... to the
Sync port on your synth... you put it into mode where it will accept a data
transfer... and then you hit play... and the synth interprets the audio it
is hearing like a file is being sent to it over a dial-up modem [it even
sounds like a dial-up modem.. because essentially... it is].
Then the synth reboots... and now there's new information in it... In the
case of DX-9 Voices... if you have a Yamaha DX-9... this would allow you to
get your hands on the Presets that Richard D. James most likely used on
some of his tracks that make use of the Yamaha DX-9.
So... if you know anyone with a Yamaha DX-9.... or even a TX-9... and you
want some Instruments Presets from the Ginger Wizard himself... this is one
way to get them.
