9:00 am- wake up.
2:00 pm- drive to LA
3:00 pm- hassle with bastard professor
4:00 pm- no results
5:00 pm- get on the 10
6:00 pm- arrive at dublab to meet christoph, watch him spin sexy white labels
8:00 pm- food!
8:15 pm- go to buda's, get adverse 9, ambush 9, praxis 29, newskin 5, all
exceptional records, also a dan hekate tape (!)
9:00 pm- go to alfreds, sleep, crazy fucking house, crazy papa, too many
instruments to count, lots of hip books
went to sleep somewhere around this time! got up the next day (joy)
3:00 pm- got the sound system, went to vinyl fetish, lost my wallet, found my
wallet, go to the smell
7-9- set up! speakers, candles, midgets, power noise movement mind control
guns
9:30- daedalus goes on, really harsh set, barely any DnB, much enjoyed by me,
strong and rough, mostly breakcore and some hardcore electro
10:30-hey minion, fucking great displaced breakbeats everywhere, atmosphere,
intricate bass, his best live set ever! the junglists survived it too,
mickey finn watch out
11:30- buda, lots of great classic tracks, from praxis USA, amputate 4...good
set of hardcore and breakcore i think
12:30- invictus! you know how it is, bumping solid techno, aside from some
mixing trainsex, great set
1:30 or so?- christoph fringelli! hell yeah, everyone who was there can
attest to the fucking beauty that was dropped, lots of white labels that i'll
hopefully own one day, crunching shattercore in the praxis tradition.
2:30- baseck! well-oiled breakcore and noisebeats, concluded his set with
turning nic endo's dhr limited and some other noise record into two step
noisebreaks somehow...phat with two fs
4:00 probably- unilluminode was too busy taking things apart, so DJ object
gets drafted into service with his four recently purchased records, the rest
is financial and state-terror history.
5:00- quin, mark and i finish packing everything up
6:00- dennys, fucking grilled cheese and orange juice
7:00- sleep on a pillow and a sheet at mark's house ;D
candlelight had all sorts of records for sale, punk, hardcore, breakcore,
power noise (hi aaron), and we had a lot of political literature on display
including c8's own brett on the corporate role in universities, we also had a
representative for D2kLA who talked about the protests and had lots of
literature, shit was informative.
next day we return the sound system and mark flakes on the francisco lopez
show! oh, here's a review of that:
8:00 pm- spastic colon and amy denio- bunch of fucks on noise gear,
amplifying noises from childhood toys, it was really fucking good! totally
enjoyed
9:00?-tom recchion- crazy lounge loops synthesized with zooming in and out
melodies, less noise, more beautiful structures of pretty shit!
10:00?- john bischoff- this guy was AWESOME! hard to describe...sort of pink
noise layers, grating intricacies and struggling shards of sound, on a g3 and
a keyboard.
11:00- francisco lopez- holy shit...so we're all sitting in the auditorium,
waiting for lopez to come out right? then the MC tells us: "please vacate
the venue for 5 minutes", so being dutiful bourgeosie fucks, we do. we come
back, lopez ain't there, the MC tells us that we can all populate the
performance space, so everyone spreads around the room. then! the lights go
OFF, we're all in TOTAL darkness, can't see our hands in front of our faces
and a winding eery voice is piped through the speakers, which eventually
turns into a churning wall of blasting noise. so here we are, we can't
escape, we can't speak, we just have to experience...it went on for an hour,
and then abruptly stopped. great music, terrifying experience, but it was
definitely something i'm greatful for. his record on mego sucks, but oh
well, his rainforest recording is great.
rock on london,
-JON!-
