on sr. coconut:
odd.. i think the cd is much fun and will listen to it quite a bit.
the sr. coconut stuff (i have 2 cds) is quite groovy and well done IMO.
the kraftwerk covers were my personal soundtrack for my weekend in SF..
though some girl who happened to be in the room when i was playing them
was soooo NOT into it ("huh? crackwhore? oh, kraftwerk.. who is that?
whens the trance come on?"... no joke :)
anyway, i think its QUITE well done.
but i don't think it is essential.
also picked up some other things recently:
land of the loops "puttering about a small land" -
its cute. :) yeah, as someone said, he "has not progressed" -- whatever
that means, its fun!
ethiopiques: golden years of modern ethiopian music (69-75) #3
very very groovy and funky compilation. check it out of you are curious
about such things. not quite idm i know, but hey -- if aphex sampled this
someone here would pay big money for it and suddenly fall in love with it
im sure :)
DNA le draw D kee
2 long ambient pieces from folks related to the pink dots (ka-spel,
moore..). this is really QUITE good and i am glad i took the chance with
this when i saw it for sale at the recent pink dots show. i think it fits
in pretty well with some of the material discussed here - odd little
clanking percussion bits, nice blips and bits of techno-ish moments, music
box sounds. good stuff.
downpour - "don't go breaking my art" 7"
good god, this is GREAT. 4 songs that fit nicely inbetween the worlds of
IDM, noise, breakcore, punk. downpour have yet to leave me unimpressed.
i hope they have a full length come out sometime soon. this, in my
opinion, IS essential if you are interested in very WELL constrcuted and
intense harsh music.
eardrum remixes vol 1:
4 mixes on here. 2 bore me to tears. but the monolake and freeform mixes
are both very different and very perfect! im pretty into the crazy
percussive sounds in the freeform mix and think that it is the perfect
take on the eardrum "sound"
pole vs four tet ep:
eh. its okay.
i guess thats all.
chris.
