<< Speaking of Fila Brazillia, how is the new LP? Can anyone offer a review? Is it even out yet? >> It just arrived at my house scant hours ago, having been ordered from (those bastards at) cdnow. You could probably find it in a good-quality local record shop, although most chain stores don't carry any fila at all, and I dunno what kinda distro the new label (tritone) will obtain. "A Touch of Cloth" offers more of the creamy, immaculately-produced funk vibes we've come to expect from fila (one of my favorite artists). The line here between jazz and electronica is fuzzed - some drum machines are used, other moments are pure smoothy-pseudo-fushiony jazz (fusion without the endless wanking solos, of course). Tastefully funky. Perfect for a swank hipster cocktail hour. Other palette elements are used, some more new-ish to fila (the odd tropicalia, vocal "oohs," string sweeps), some like old friends (acoustic guitars). Heavy rotation is likely. Perfect music for puttering around the house, working, gardening, driving, and reading e-mail. << Any news about other artists slated for the new label? << The tritone website currently is just a placeholder, so not much detail yet on the label. Does anyone know why fila left pork to form tritone? To me, fila pretty much *was* pork, so this came as a big surprise (not that I don't dig some of the other pork acts as well). - Fred Church http://www.thelocus.com/kumquat (free music for free people) and check out http://www.earpollution.com/nov99/album/album.htm#kumquat for a fresh review --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
