OK, I gave "Chiastic Slide" a more concentrated study and found, to my combined delight and embarassment (having just asked if they existed), that this album does in fact have track titles. Now, let me see if I can spell them correctly: Cipater, Rettic AC, Tewe, Cichli, Hub, Calbruc, Recury, Pule, Nuane. How the hell does Autechre come up with these titles? Does one of them know a fellow with a nasty speech impediment, or do they just think the words look/sound cool? Tewe? The full-blown "Come to Daddy" video is up on the Warp Records site (no more spooky RDJ twisted faces surrounded by broadcast static -- now we have the Village of the Damned chasing an old lady) but the frame rate is horrendous. RealPlayer's stat page told me the video was encoded at 2.5 fps, but something along the way kept kludging it down to 0.0 fps (uh-huh, I was stuck looking at a frame of Mr. James trying to eat my soul for a minute). "Amp". Will it ever be new again? The episode with Meat Beat Manifesto's "Helter Skelter" and the Orb's "Asylum" was fresh to my eyes 'n ears, but since then the 1 a.m. Sunday morning slot has been rather musty. Adieu question: what is the most money anyone has ever shelled out for an IDM album? For me it was $19.99 for "Auntie Aubrey's Excursions Beyond the Call of Duty" Orb remix album. I haven't even TRIED getting a hold of some extra-rare Aphex Twin material; I'm still smarting from scouring the Bay Area for my beloved "Classics" months ago and now finding copies all over Tower. And how tough is it to find the "On" maxi-single in stores now? I thought it pretty unique to find one copy for $5.99 at Best Buy (I grabbed it right quick, youbetcha). -> CGN cgnava@ix.netcom.com
