For all the times that I've come across Laswell's name, I never bought one of his Axiom compilations till last week. Picked up Axiom Dub 2xCD "Mysteries of Creation". I will definitely be buying more. 15 tracks. Highlights include (my prefs marked with "+" FWIW): > The Orb "Cocksville U.S.A." (10"32'). One of The Orb's more uptempo tracks. Some Orb noodling. At least one synth sound reminds me of Air Liquide's "Imago." +> Material "Ghost Light/Dread Recall" (14"17'). Dark bass with nice windchime and drum samples for 8", then warmer, more playful dub. +> Mad Professor "Ariwa Dub Club" (5"06'). Solid Mad Professor dub with lots of echo. +> Dub Syndicate "Gun Too Hot" (4"41'). Great sample. Bouncy. Music for strolling (or toddlers learning to walk). +> Jah Wobble/Jaki Liebezeit/Neville Murray "Nev 12" (6"08'). Don't know what to say about this except that I like it a lot. +> DJ Spooky "Anansi Abstrakt" (11"37'). Slow drum sample makes this track seem very low-tempo. Less bass on this one. Music for sitting (or babies learning to roll).
quoted 7 lines I haven't heard much about Bill Laswell from this list. I picked up>I haven't heard much about Bill Laswell from this list.
