Firstly, the harshness was directed toward "the Wire" who dared compare a
humble dj to John Coltrane. In my opinion, even if you were Q-bert, that's
a stretch which is going to draw some serious fire.
Next, I have had the opportunity to see/hear Spooky spin and it was about as
uneventful as a dj set can get. He put a track on and then took it off and
put on another track. Wow! There was no cutting, no scratching, no
whismical deejay dynamics, in fact, he even looked bored! Most importantly,
his track selection was well less then extra-ordinary.
So now then, the Wire is comparing such a dee jay to one of the most
profound jazz pioneers our world has been blessed with? I would hope jazz
fans would have the sack to stand up and proclaim the contrary. Decide for
yourself...
