1) I got In Pine Effect yesterday and its excellent, sort of like Tango 'N
Vectif but funkier (like JS) and with some of the percussional sounds of
the Auteurs remix ep. Fave tracks:
Iced Jem: Really sunny & glorious. Grinmungous :)
<track with Kristen Hersh guitar sample>: Cellos & acoustic guitar in IDM
with a slow breakbeat thing over the top- truely innovative.
Green Crumble: pub 'old joanna' piano funkiness. Splendid.
MikeP also seems to be using more instrument sounds from orchestras-
I'd be interested to hear more IcctHedral/Aphex/Glass style orchestrations
of IDM tracks. It adds just that extra bit of warmth to the music.
2) Does anyone agree that track 6 off Oval/Sytemisch is a 'remix' of one of
the tracks on SAWII? Talking of SAWII (and without checking the archive :( )
the Peel Session Aphex did a while back was great, particularly the remix
of the 2nd SAWII track he did- with sort of vocal/beatbox kind of percussion
over the top. This session ended with Pancake Lizard, but my fave track was
the first one with the bird tweeting sound throughout.
3) Has anyone noticed (and before you ask I am NOT a trekkie:) that the person
credited with the production of Star Trek TNG is one Richard James- surely
this CAN'T be a namesake ;)
4) If anyone from RePHLeX is reading this, how can I get any of their old
releases on CD. I understood that you have a mail-order service and I wrote
to ask you what was available, but I got no reply.
I have the money in my pocket and the tunes in my head but no CDs!
5) Listening to '3/4 Heart' (the last track) off Black Dog/Bytes must be the
best way to end a day. Does anyone agree or have tracks that they reckon are
particularly enjoyable at a particular time of day (or even year)
6) Does anyone like listening to the dying ends of their walkman as the
batteries run out? I don't have access to any vari-speed CD players (all my
stuff's om CD) and it can sometimes add a whole new perspective on tunes.
Listening to stuff through little passive walkman speakers too loudly can
also add new light to tunes.
