I think this was clearly a purposeful move on his part. The placement of the barcode on the front, the prominence of the obligatory 'compact disc audio' on the disc label art, and the cheesy hadwritten track listing all contibute to an aesthetic which a friend of mine compared to Whitehouse's rerelease covers (for those of you unfamiliar Whitehouse is a power electronics band who rereleased all of their early material with identical sleeves and minimal track information). I think it is a play on the concept of '...I Care Because You Do', implying that he really doesn't (as we all probably suspect), especially since this album's package design is unlikely to attract anyone. But the album is nonetheless brilliant, and anyone who passes based on the packaging is missing a real gem. On a related note today I also picked up the new Plaid (Black Dog) on Richard James' (or so I am told) 'Clear Records' label. Amazing experimental/ambient/funk which everyone should check out if they get a chance. --------------------------------------------------------------- Jeffrey G Reid jgreid@u.washington.edu --------------------------------------------------------------- "O holy mathematics, may I for the rest of my days be consoled by perpetual intercourse with you, consoled for the wickedness of man and the injustice of the Almighty!" -- Isidore Ducasse
