Could somebody give me some info on the double cd version with the bonus cd? Is it any good and is it mostly new material from the R&S folks? Also could somebody give me their thoughts on the Model 500 Sonic Sunset single. Anything would be appreciated. Sheesh, I just posted this to this list a mere 5 days ago ... ------- Begin Included Message As for "In Order To Dance 5" itself, it's fantastic. The main double-CD has some excellent tracks (though why Renaat chose "Phi*1700" from the mu-Ziq 12" I can't understand) and I was very happy to find out that some of the lesser-known acts were just as exciting as the known (I am particularly impressed by the Speed Jack, Teste, 69, and Sensurreal tracks at the moment). The limited edition version CDS contains 6 tracks (Wild West, 69, Minimal Vision, Sun Electric, Ken Ishii and Link a.k.a. Mark Pritchard of Reload/G.C.). As much as I love Sun Electric, Ken Ishii and Reload/G.C., none of these tracks on the extra CDS are really essential. (The extra tracks are available on the LP version and with the lucite version.) As far as the lucite version goes, it's really neat ... but for a 1/10th of the price you can get the same music and there's a 2-D picture of the lucite thingy on the cover of the 2CD case anyway :-) So save your cash. I bought the ltd. ed. 2CD+CDS version, but if you're on a budget, save yourself $5 and get the regular version. You're not really missing out on much ... ------- End of Included Message To answer your question about "is it mostly new material", define "new" :-) Of the first two "regular" disks, there is one track (Carl Craig) that says "Previously unreleased"; there are 3 tracks (The Source Experience, Kenny Larkin and CJ Bolland) that say "Taken from the forthcoming album <name> on R&S". That leaves 19 tracks that are "Taken from <an existing release>". On the bonus disk, only the Sun Electric track is "Previously unreleased". The other 5 tracks are "Taken from <an existing release>". If you mean "new" as in "from their most recently released recordings", on the other hand, I'd say most of them are pretty recent, yes. Don't argue, just buy it! :-) - Greg

The Carl Craig track, 'At Les', isn't previously unreleased at all despite what the liner notes say. It was already on the Virtual Sex compilation (Buzz records) of 1993.... It is good, but it did come as a bit of a disappointment to me after the nearly unmitigated brilliance of volume 4. Whereas IOtD4 was a diverse collection of stunning tracks from different genres, volume 5 is almost all R&S's trademark dark trance with echoey basslines. Where 4 added to its diversity with licensed tracks from other labels, 5 licenses more dark trance with echoey basslines. Which is not to say that these tracks aren't good, just that I would appreciate a more changes of pace, particularly since dark trance with echoey basslines isn't my favorite style of music.
