Disregard the subject, this applies to another post - sy77 dis. Jamie Hodge said sy77 and k2000 were great, etc. Does anyone know if "Hello" on Kenny Larkin's "Azimuth" is 75% or more k2000 presets? My friend heard the track then played me the "hello" and "boodoobeerdoo" (loopy analoguesque thing) presets on his k2000s... they sound *exactly* the same. If you've heard the k2000 and "Hello" you'd probably wonder why I'm even bothering to ask. Comments?

I have to say that the K2000 was probably the only keyboard I ever took for a spin that impressed me with it's presets. Wait, the JD-800 was fun, too, but I was tweaking the presets something fierce...I can't recall... Anyway, the K2000 is the only KEYBOARD. EMU Morpheus and Vintage Keys impressed me, but they lack keys. <G> Wanna use presets? Be my guest. I wish I could erase ALL of them in EVERY piece of equipment I own. No chance.... Well, I for one noticed the same thing about the Azimuth. Another funny thing: When Speedy J was playing live here in Finland he borrowed my K2000. Just before his set he came to me and asked what the hell was wrong with my K2000. I had the _wrong_ sounds inside, he said. It became clear that he has a K2000 with a newer operation system and newer _presets_ than I do. I had assumed that he brings a disk of his own sounds with him but no, he wanted the presets. I still like his Ginger album very much but this was quite surprising, indeed. (Well, it can be that he had just got the K2k.) Also, FSOL certainly uses some preset wave sequences from the Korg Wavestation in their Amorphous Androgynous album. It is strange that the WS is not mentioned in their equipment list, though. Perhaps they sampled it or used some sample CD... There are more examples of noticeable preset usage but none of them comes to my mind right now. (Somehow I feel a bit guilty if I use a preset sound. At least I'll have to change it a bit.) Greetings, Jouni

Some artists just don't have the patience to forge sounds, preferring to dive right in. I see nothing WRONG with this, but when I use presets, I always feel I am short-changing myself.... <G> =B)

It doesn't make me like an album any less even if it uses (or should I say overuses) presets. But I kinda think that since the sounds are a crucial part of electronic music one should at least give some credit to the preset programmers if one mostly uses them. Still, it is hard to draw a fine line what is a preset nowadays. I often take a 808 sample or such and build a sound based on that with my K2k. Perhaps I mean a preset as we have discussed here - such a preset that anybody with a hands on experience with a synth can recognice. 303 and such are in a bit different category since they don't really even have a single preset. I guess it is the same for me than for Morgan - it's a psychological thing. Jouni.
