which brings up the question: what good are pseudonyms if everyone knows you use these names? if rich james ((G) pun not really intended) truly didn't care about the money, wouldn't he not tell anyone he's on this comp, and release under the name Suction Regulator or something? hmmm? hypocritically yours, Dan http://ftp.luth.se/pub/sounds/kosmic/www/latenews.html to get my new free track "Suction Regulator" :-) /~~~\ |~~~~\ |~~||~~~~~~| |~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~| | o | | o || ||__ __| | DanN = moddan@vlad.bowker.com | \ / /~~~\ | / | | | | | t23@cyberspace.com | / \ | O || \ | | | | | Transmission 23 - FTZ - edrone | | O | \___/ | O || | | | |____________________________________| \___/ C O L L|____/E|__|C |__|T I V E \*\ \*\

Part of the point is that particular names may be signed to particular labels. (This has certainly been the case with Richard James in former times, when the name Aphex Twin was signed to R&S, and he had to use other names -- such as AFX -- to release stuff on other labels.) Also, artists sometime use pseudonyms to distinguish different projects which might otherwise alienate fans of their other work through being rather different in style..... Often, the identity of the pseudonyms is well known, and there's no intention of anonymity. It's all a bit of a game, really..... Of course, people also realease things through completely unknown pseudonyms -- or on white labels -- to achieve real anonymity. Even in that case, though, their identity usually gets around eventually..... -cosmic
