Yeah, I've got three discs by them, two on Rising High, one on Infonet, don't have em with me so name's are eluding me. Really diverse mix of sounds ranging from jazzy dub, thru progressive/trancey house and then some straight up *hard trance*. I was mixing with some of that from them last night, kinda blew my mind. On that note, check out Outlander's *Aural Scent* on R&S; smoking hard and deep trance with great percussion. take it easy ethan _______ ethan miller nrg pgp me _________________________ 'one unbroken whole' ________________________ (: positive energy can save the world :) __________________________________________

JAMES BERNARD (also known as syzygy, influx, cybertrax, etc.) has just released a full length album on 2X12" and CD called atmospherics. Anybody hear it or get it yet? Reviews? anyone?? anyone??? :) ___ / / / / / / _ __/ (_/__/ / (__ (__ ___/

He's actually got two albums out at the moment. There's also an Influx release on Sapho (Rising High offshoot) called Unique which I picked up last week. Only had a single play so far, first impression was that there were a couple of really excellent tracks but nothing especially ground breaking.

First off, I know that James Bernard is responsible for influx (whose album is okay) and cybertrax, but I'm almost positive that he is not related to syzygy. Atmospherics sounds very similar to Pete Namlook's brand of ambience, which would be rather hollow, droning synths with melodys drifting in and out as well as the occasional tribal percussion, vocal loop or low bassline. Sometimes it works, and it gets pretty interesting, but it didn't really grab my attention. Kind of cheesy vocal samples about losing your mind, etc. just aren't that great anymore. It may sound better after repeated listenings but I think that you may as well listen to Air II for a more mature and developed sound. Jonathan eabu751@orion.oac.uci.edu

yeah, he's not credited for the two syzygy tracks on "rising high trance injection." it's two people - dominic glynn and ... er, someone else whose name i can't remember but i'm fairly certain isn't james bernard. /jon

yes, i just heard that one and it is tops. although i can understand where you might see a resemblance to god within, i have to say that it reminds me more of enigma or deep forest, even! no matter how you slice it, it's still way cool. I once talked to Pypee from Sapho while pleading for promos and he mentioned that the guy from Influx is/was 14 years old.. that might explain the lack of development.
