William Orbit dilemma...
hey all, i really want to buy a new disc but my money supply is getting low and i want to make sure my next selection is a good one. first of all, let me preface this by saying that i am very picky about my idm (hardcore is still my preferred music style) and i know that idm varies a lot so help me out to decide here... i've heard a lot of people having orgasms over Willy Orbit but since i've never heard any of his stuff (actually i probably have but not realized it), could someone describe his style to me? comparisons to other artists, description of music texture (very electronic, organic, spacey, dark, etc), and anything else would be appreciated... as for what i like in music, i will be one of the few to admit that i like my techno with a light sugar coating. structure is important too (melody, rhythm, logical tonal progression); for example, i don't really like amorph androg because to me it seems like one large exercise in texture without any meaning or movement. orb, however, has texture, melody, rhythm, the works =). given all this, do you guys think i would like willy? i've already wasted 15 smackers on amorph androg (go ahead and flame me) and i don't have much more money to throw away. maybe i should stick to the mindless hardcore that i know better... ___ (:)====/__/\=(:)(:)============================(:)====================(:) |\| _\_ \ \|\||=| Tai Nguyen |\| email address: |=| |=| /__/\_\ \=||\| Cornell University |=| thn1@cornell.edu |\| |\| / /\ __/\|(:)============================(:)====================(:) |=|/ / /\ \ |=||=| "There are three kinds of lies: lies, damn lies, |=| |\/__/ \_\/ |\||\| and statistics." |\| |=\__\/\ \ |=||=| - Mark Twain |=| (:)==\__\/===(:)(:)===================================================(:)

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Why you yella bellied schmuck. You wouldn't know music if it crawled up your anus and bit you in the colon. If music was your nose it would have left home years ago. Why you oyster gulping pantywaist. You're a disgrace to the good morals of the IDM list. Why you hairy butted ape. Why you lilly livered leprechan. If you were near me, I'd take Amorphous Androgenous and attempt to play it on your brain directly. Why you mutant moby'd mutt. Why you lip- synching-sucking over-charging no-cost-on-flier no-water-at-door loose-lipped location-losing vibe-stealing promoter. I'm gonna reach through this copper vine and kill you myself. Love, Mr. Opportunity

From the cyberdesk of: Tai Nguyen From: ??? Date: ??? Subject: ??? Status: As an aside on William Orbit, I believe he was one of the members of "Torch Song", classic '80s (?I)DM. BTW, is everyone else's album of theirs in this really dark purple vinyl? Hold it up to a light. His Strange Cargo 1 ain't that bad either, but I found only one or two tracks worth filing in my noggin'. I'm glad to see the series has improved. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Michael King mike%delta1@rex.cs.tulane.edu Delta Systems New Orleans, LA 70002 Voice: 504.837.9835 Fax: 504.837.9838 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Never under estimate the bandwidth of a station wagon loaded with mag tapes. -From the "kermit" manual ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
