Many apologies for sending that empty message. My copy of Outlook was
playing up. It seems to be alright now (fingers crossed). Sorry about that,
everybody.
The message that I was trying to send before is quoted below..enjoy.

Now, I'm breaking out my GREAT BIG ROCK(tm) with which I intend to kill many
birds...
First off, this list is about IDM. I guess that covers news about IDM, as
well as IDM itself, as James Knapman so rightly said. So that makes it
alright to discuss the Plaid/BD issue. However, this business is between
Black Dog and Plaid and until we (ie - everyone other than BD and Plaid)
know more about the situation, I don't think sides should be taken at all.
Of course, if you /do/ know the whole story, then it's quite alright for you
to make bold statements about who is in the right and who is not, as long as
you can back up your arguments with solid facts. In any case, there isn't
any point in getting worked up about it as there's nothing we can do about
it anyway.

I was interested by the messages about the 'IDM lifestyle'. While it's true
that some people live lives which come through in their music, for the most
part it's not possible to say that people live their music. Of course there
are exceptions...the 'rock and roll lifestyle' for example. I read an
article in some magazine last year about how S-Club 7 were having a great
time living the rock and roll lifestyle! Also, in Britain there seems to be
a house/garage lifestyle emerging. Guys who go out on a Friday and Saturday
night wearing the uniform (bright Ben Sherman / YSL shirt, smart combat
pants / chinos, horrible big shiny black shoes with huge shiny buckles) and
all have the same haircut. Apart from the metal scene (black, black, black),
I haven't seen anything quite like it. I really don't believe there's such a
thing as an IDM car (but if there was, what would it be?) and unless I'm
horribly mistaken, the original posting wasn't about 'IDM headphones' but
about which headphones were suitable for listening to IDM. We all know that
you can into a store and buy a hi-fi more suited for playing classical music
than dance music etc...why not the same with headphones? BTW - I saw a pair
of Sony cans that claimed to be 'pro-quality' with a frequency response
quoted as 60Hz - 16kHz. Standards must be slipping...
Well, in York, I'm involved with the underground drum'n'bass/breaks/hiphop
scene and I've never seen such a range of characters anywhere else. We get
goth types, piercing fetishists, students, even the previous mayor of York
turned up to one of our gigs! The moral of the story: don't conform for the
sake of conforming and don't be different for the sake of being different.
Just be yourself.

Moving on, I downloaded Jetjag's track 'Errol' the other day and I haven't
been able to stop listening to it since. It's wicked! Reminds me of 'Blue
Room'.

I haven't seen anyone mention Red Snapper yet. Are they IDM or not really?
Also, does anyone here read Future Music? Opinions?
Which label is Mr Scruff signed to? I heard someone play 'Fish Dances' on my
uni radio station and I'd like to know where I can find it.

I'm quite new to the IDM scene and I hope I haven't stepped on anybody's
toes with this posting. If I have, I apologise.
Whooo...I'm tired now! Byee.

PS - if you've sent me email in the last few days and I haven't replied yet,
I've been having problems with my email software and in a fit of pique, it
wiped all my emails. So, please write to me again and I'll get back to you.
