Hello crew, I recently spilled about a gallon of juice on my PC laptop (resulting in its death) and thusly went out and purchased a new one. However this new machine is "only compatible with windows vista" because the technology is "so advanced". However, as most may be aware, Vista is not only a horrendous monstrosity that slowly chews its way through your valuable cheese reserve of patience but also it notorious for it driver calamities. My perfectly reasonable external Tascam audio card refuses to work with vista and attempting to make them get along has resulted in 2 system crashes and all around disfunction. Additionally all the new hardcore powerful PC laptops all seem to only support windows vista... Does any one know of an excellent external card (I was looking at something in the Motu ultralite/smaller RME area) that will peacefully co-exist with this horrendous operating system? And yes I know about 4/5s of the list has a mac and will quietly chuckle to themselves in a mixture of relief and contempt... hahaha Thank you, Ben Goodwin --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Maybe you should blame your sound card. :) Just bustin' your balls, but I use a M-Audio firewire Audiophile and it works great. :) But i never really "work" on the vista laptop... so yeah who knows.. Best of luck tho. What technology exactly says it can't work with XP? I know a lot of companies will just say that with there being nothing actually substantiating such... so what makes you so sure you can't run XP other than that is what they told you? I've got a Dell inspiron 9400 duocore2, pci express slot, etc an dso forth. It's quite a powerful machine, not the best of the best but pretty darn nice. It came with Vista, I put XP on it, no probs. But yeah, also... tascam sucks driver wise; get a new sound card. What I use, the Onyx 400F, might be more than you need, but maudio is slightly better (not much, the 410 has crap drivers) and RME/etc all have solid soundcards. I'm using Vista on a quad-core machine and must admit to hating it most days. Granted, not for audio processing, but graphics editing. My husband bought a new laptop and immediately ripped out Vista and installed XP - runs perfectly, no problems. I can't see why it would say ONLY Vista compatible?
