03) Alert's Bleeped Out mix
04) Us7's Bear in Camp mix
Well, the only negative thing to be said about Homeward Bound, the new
EP
from Dope Recordings, is that at no point does it contain talking dogs
and
cats on a quest to find their owners. But we can forgive them for that,
because the Dope crew is a bunch of dirty dogs on a quest for funk, and
they done found that shit.
Attentat and Royale’s original mix is an epic building journey through
watery dubby techno. Deep and brooding, with an underlying dance floor
vibe that drives this eleven minute masterpiece along, this is
definitely
one for the late night heads when you’re ready to get nasty in the
party.
Thick pulsing bass washing over your body, matched with warm droning
synth
lines, characterize this piece and make it another example of the
growing
sound of Colorado underground techno.
Up next we have Magnetic Assassin’s, Go Home and Get Some Dub mix of
the track.
This is the first offering to the Dope sound by old man grandpa, the
patriarch of the Colorado techno scene. He’s stuffed with fried chicken,
got his belt undone, his hand securely slipped into his underwear’s
elastic band, and with his head leaned back in satisfaction, dude about
to
tell you youngsters a story about gettin’ the fuck down. Continuing in
the
dubby tradition of the original, but taking it in a new direction,
Magnetic Assassin’s mix is every bit as hot and sexy. Stripped down and
minimal,
driven purely by percussion and bass, this is a heads down jackin’ on
the
dance floor as the sun comes up jammy jam.
Next up is Alert’s Bleeped Out Remix and is the jam furthest from the
original in presentation and sound. Minimal and bleep bloopy, just as
the
title suggests, this track showcases Alert’s slowly evolving approach to
building techno tracks. Quirky and interesting, the bouncing percussion
is
pushed along by clicks, beeps and snatches of synth lines gleaned from
the
source material. The kick forms a center point which all of the various
sounds revolve around forming a solid cell of techno funk.
And up last for this one, we have US7’s Bear In Camp mix of Homeward
Bound. More uptempo and driving then the other mixes US7’s remix has its
eyes set on the peak hour, a perfect track for making the crowd want to
rub their bits up against one another and shout at the sky. Eschewing
most
of the dubbiness of the original, this jam focuses on building a heavy
dance floor presence, focused on the pulsing kick drum and the warbling
bass line.
