Tuesday May 16: Doormouse [his only area show] Doofgoblin A Drop In Silence Charlottesville, VA [1.75 hrs from DC, 1 hr from Richmond, 1 hr from Harrisonburg, 3 hrs from Baltimore] 10PM, $5 Dust Warehouse [1304 B East Market St] Doormouse [Addict Records], based in Miami, has been noted as an originator of breakcore and the Godfather of midwest hardcore (he's originally from WI), with past releases on Planet Mu, Sublight, Zod, Violent Turd, and Cock Rock Disco. Dan Doormouse will be performing with live drummer Anonymous on the Staggering Sobriety tour. Tell your friends in far away places, for this is Doormouse's only area appearance (unless you live in New Jersey or Pittsburgh). Doofgoblin [Unschooled Records], now living in Charlottesville, will perform as well. Doofgoblin offers up a chaotic pitch of improvised IDM and techno noise catering to nail biters and short attention spans. A Drop In Silence has visited Charlottesville once before and nearly busted the windows out of the Tea Bazaar with their impactful (not a real word), live IDM. Recently they played the Signal Electronic Music Festival in Chapel Hill and a Percussion Lab party in NYC. Happy to have 'em back. I really dug Doormouse/Anonymous when they played here (in Iowa City). And Dan seems to have turned into a clean-cut sweetheart! Who knew? Anonymous was amazing. Imagine someone keeping up with 190BPM breraks flipping into hardcore, while keeping up 16th note triplets on the ride cymbal. He did a bit before they really started with a Rashid Ali style free-tempo drumming with timpani sticks that I loved too. And Dan did a bit where he basically bit Jamie Lidell's whole live sampling shtick for a few minutes before jumping head first into gabberish breaky noisecore goodness. Only chumps will miss out on this tour. You know who you are. You chumps. On 5/9/06, John Gulino <jg7ed@virginia.edu> wrote:
