So, Jeff, how does it compare with the s/t Landesvatter release from 2003? Didn't find that one particularly tippable. alan --On 13 March 2006 18:09 -0500 theREALmxyzptlk <theREALmxyzptlk@comcast.net> wrote:

Sorry - without spending a month digging for the last one, I can't comment intelligently as far as a comparison. This one is quite good, though. jeff Alan Lockett wrote:

Okay...I thought about this one the way to work. I'm talking 'out of school' with regard to the last one, but as I recall, it didn't grab me either. I know I played it a few times and it seemed to meander without finding its feet. Not that it wasn't interesting, but it just didn't grab me or thrust itself into the queue for my player. This one, on the other hand, seems much more compositionally cohesive- the songs just hang together with a really nice balance of repetition (recognizable themes/bridges) and variance (layering, building, good twists and turns which keep you interested). There's more 'bottom' to hold everything together, more clearly defined beats and it definitely comes down on this side of the groove spectrum. The sound palette is rich and varied and combinations are used to good effect, making tracks sound at once more abstract AND more floor friendly than the last one. Think Jelinek/The Exposures when it works well. That's the first reference which comes to mind - at times jazzy, not completely 'clicky', but definitely all about samples and loops. Very cool dischordant touches here and there which upset/juxtapose the melody and don't let you get too comfortable with pigeonholing the record too quickly. The caveat I'd always add is that 'this is where my ears are at' right now. I might pull the other Landesvatter out (if I could find it!) and be impressed with it in ways I wasn't back when it was released. I think it's safe to say that this one is well matured - if 'matured' means more "hooks" in your dictionary. Often it's the case that so much music goes through my hot little hands that I cannot evaluate it or even really listen to it with any depth. I tossed this one in on a whim last night and I let it play through 3 times straight with no desire to pull it out. It was also my soundtrack to work this morning. Take that for what it's worth. jeff -------------- Original message ---------------------- From: theREALmxyzptlk <theREALmxyzptlk@comcast.net>
