From the MUTEK website:
http://www.mutek.ca/2005/event.php?lang=en&event_id=43
(On their Saturday night Metropolis event): "This year, for the
ongoing event night that MUTEK stages at Metropolis, artists known for
delivering vibrant performances will be in control. Traditionally a
prized evening for festivalgoers, this occasion will allow the
audience to discover Gallopierende Zuversicht. Renowned for their rare
yet highly memorable live performances, this Swiss group will be
making their North American debut."
(On Galoppierende Zuversicht): "The Galoppierende Zuversicht project
was established, for all intents and purposes, as a strong stage
performance. Consequently, no computers and Styro (Marcel Ackerknecht)
and Bang Goes' (Roland Widmer) stubborn disposition regarding
recording in the studio are a direct result of their goal of achieving
the "livest" conditions possible for their sound. With their
exhilarating performance, these celebrated producers from Zurich send
a message to the detractors of an electronic genre described
principally as static. Galoppierende Zuversicht employs only
sequencers and other homemade instruments in their performances, which
for three years now has excited audiences at numerous European
festivals. Now it's your turn to feel the effects of this performance
and 'Gallop Confidently' with them."
A personal email from Marcel Ackerknecht, aka Styro2000:
"We (Galoppierende Zuversicht) would play live, that would look a bit
like the photos attached; they were taken during an open air last
summer. Our thing is to not use laptops, we perform our music in a way
of improvisation and conversation between our machines (some of them
are selfmade) and the audience. its sort of exciting, communicating
with the people, and letting things happen. The style is more a bit of
minimal-tricky techno, good suitable for the late hour. Our latest
record, the Basta EP, was also produced at this way, and is now
licensed for the next Richie Hawtin MixCompilation, coming out soon.
Mathew Dear seemed to like it (he wrote a nice email), and Miss Kittin
can also act as point of reference."
From "The Bunker" website, NYC:
Bruchstuecke is a very weird outsider minimal techno label from
Switzerland. We have been huge fans of pretty much every release,
starting with the first one in 1999. These guys show very little
interest in following trends and have been blazing their own path from
the start. Luckily for us, some of the Bruchstuecke posse is on the
continent to do a gig at Mutek in Montreal and were very keen to come
down to NYC to play with us. DJ Fragment is Markus Unterfinger, who
runs the label. We've never heard him DJ, but have total faith in
anyone with good enough taste to put out so many amazing records.
Galoppierende Zuversicht is the live project of Bruchstuecke artists
Styro2000 and Bang Goes. Their live set incorporates self built
samplers and hardware instead of laptops. They recently released their
debut 12" on Bruchstuecke. Ricardo Villalobos is calling them the best
live techno act in the world right now, and they pretty much proved it
with their unbelievable set at Mutek last Saturday. They had the
unenviable task of following up incredible sets by Monolake, Mathew
Jonson, Luciano, and Atom Heart. The two Swiss unknowns tore the roof
off, despite a major malfunction of a key piece of equipment. It is
unlikely that these guys will be back in the States anytime soon, if
ever. This is their only East Coast gig. You'd be a fool to miss this
one.
