WED Nov 3, 2004: with Kero, Derek Michael, and DJs Chris Widman and Don Solo @ Sonotheque, 1444 W Chicago, Chicago, IL. 9pm. I have played quite a few tour dates with these guys from Detroit Underground, and am really looking forward to this performance-- it'll be quite intense to hear their work through Sonotheque's awesome system, and they've got a new 12 out now. Come check it out! SUN Nov 21, 2004: with visuals by Brien Rullman (OVT) at the Native Instruments-sponsored weekly, LOCALE. Brien supplied the visuals for the first ever Quantazelle performance and now he's putting his distinctive visual mark on the evolved sound three years later. How cool is that? LOCALE showcases a different electronic composer every week along with a multimedia artist adding projected visuals (http://www.jrick.com/locale/). @ at Rodan, 1530 N. Milwaukee Avenue, Chicago. 10pm. FREE. <b>TBA </b> with Miles Tilmann (Toytronic, Consumers) and Dave Olsen (Parotic) @ Catacombs, Madison, WI. * 2 * The Coaster Deluxe Edition, featuring the Coaster CD along with all the accessories (Coaster Case, Coaster Custom Surfaces, certificate of authenticity, etc) (http://tinyurl.com/3j36b) is exclusively available from http://www.fractalspin.com until they are gone. It's a limited edition, so once its sold out, there will be no chance for you to snag one. The regular CD version of Coaster along with an MP3 version are also available too. * 3 * Wow. People are totally digging Coaster. Check out these reviews it's been getting: GROOVES "...it's a solid, more-than-competent release. The bulk of the 12 tracks here work straight from the classic Warp playbook, with skittering rhythms indebted to Amber-era Autechre before the pairs beats went all algorhythmic on us. Quantazelle isnt a one-trick pony, though, as she dabbles in 4/4 pounding ("Pedwards"), retro videogame bleeps (the closing "Stereofoam"), and even an ambient piano track ("Wineglass Chopstick Clinkrush")..."Vanity Knobs with Groove Grimace," in particular, sounds like an Aphex Twin track from the Selected Ambient Works 85-92 era that Richard D. lost oh his hard drive." THE MILK FACTORY "...The music is exquisitely complex and abstract, with elements of electronic and acoustic instrumentation constantly set on a collision course with found sounds and sharp pseudo-industrial beat structures. Amazingly at ease with chaotic sonic landscapes, Quantazelle crafts subtle little melodies out of debris of techno and electro while also providing some interesting atmospheric variations....Built around a sharp hip-hop-influenced rhythmic structure reminiscent of Autechre circa Tri Repetae, Liz layers sounds to develop a mind-bursting melodic pattern. ... Liz McLean-Knight manages to develop fully functional organic structures in a few minutes without using tired gimmicks or empty stylistic effects... " Here's the rest of the gushing that I link to in a most humble and undeserving manner: http://www.subvariant.com/cms/more.php?id=13_0_4_0_M#reviews * 4 * Igloo asked me to submit a Top Ten list of the albums I've had on repeat for the past month or so... so I threw together a few recent favorites: http://igloomag.com/doc.php?task=view&id=835&category=top-ten * *** * Thanks for reading... off I go to pack! -liz http://www.quantazelle.com http://www.subvariant.com http://www.zellestyle.com ---------------------------------------- My Inbox is protected by SPAMfighter 502 spam mails have been blocked so far.
